On the way to the Grand Canyon we passed over the Mike O'Callaghan – Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge, also known as the Hoover Dam bypass. I was not able to see the Hoover Dam from the bridge because it has walls on each side of it.
Also on the way to Grand Canyon I saw a lot of wildlife along the roadside and in the desert. I saw a tiny gray fox, I saw a bull with big horns, I saw a wild Mustang horse and two cattle. I discovered that Mustangs are the only wild horses in North America. They are also called feral horses.
We had to drive into an Indian reservation owned by the Hualapai Tribe then down a dirt road. There was snow/ice on the side of the road but it was a beautiful sunny day. We finally reached the Hualapai Ranch in the mid afternoon. The cabin we stayed in was very small but fun and we had a wonderful view of the Grand Canyon from our doorstep.
After that we went to the Skywalk. The Skywalk is a glass floored balcony that stretches out over the Grand Canyon. When you look down through the glass floor it is scary. We needed to wear slipper on our feet to protect the glass. The Skywalk is 4000ft above the Colorado river. On the way back from Skywalk our bus driver was crazy. Mum thought the bus driver was going to crash and she said she nearly started to cry. We arrived safely back at the ranch and went into to wooden building for dinner. In the dinner place we met a magician and a guitar player. The magician showed me tricks and gave me a trick to take home with me. The magician said he played a show with David Copperfield and the guitar player has a new song on Canadian radio. They were both on TV.
The next morning my dad got up early and took pictures of the sunrise over the Grand Canyon. It was beautiful and I have included a picture in my BLOG. After that we went for breakfast at the wooden building. After Breakfast my brother and I met Mad Mike. Mad Mike is a real cowboy. Once he shot himself in the foot and he showed us the hole in his boot. He was fun and he taught us archery. At first it was difficult but then we started hitting the target. Also at the ranch I collected spent bullet from the ground and I kept them as a souvenir.
Although the Grand Canyon was very cold at night (22 degrees) it did not snow when we were there. And the daytime was cold also (38 degrees) but it was sunny.
Now we are back in the Las Vegas in the New York New York Hotel. Later today we will leave here and drive to Death Valley, Furnace Ranch.
